Communism mixed with capitalism?

I am not some master on corporate strategies but sure, I have few thoughts about what I have seen in software companies around me. If I go applying my opinions on all companies then I would subject myself to flames but this post is welcome to criticism from people who know more about how companies work.

So here it goes...you are fresh college graduate with passion for knowledge, hunger for success and in a way ...feeling like a young tiger going for the first kill. You might also give some thought to the kind of company you would "like to work" rather than "just work". Finally, you decide to take up position with flat structure where all employees are at the same level and passionate about their work. They also handle there own work (coding) themselves and are open to discussions and scrutiny. Definitely, its the kind of work where you are allowed to discuss and evaluate new framework released by Apache or Microsoft. A guy with 10 years of work experience would not mind boozing with you and discuss his college crushes with you...and its more like a another college experience where you get paid for your efforts.

So you join and acquire knowledge as if your five senses will be blocked tomorrow. Everyday, is challenging and you enjoy discussion of best design practices and patterns over lunch. This is the place you have always been dreaming...a place which is productive, fun and yet making you feel responsible for your actions. You love flat structure companies and hence...so far so good.

And suddenly one day you wake up to measure your professional growth, you are handling so many different modules, that you have become kind of lead yourself and the designation on your card says senior software programmer...WT... ! You face your ego with the shield of reason that "my work matters more than my position in a company" but how long will you fool yourself ?
Finally, your love for flat hierarchy starts waning and you crave for real "Professional Growth". Now, would you get it if you have trained your mind (and your manager trained his own mind) for flat structure organization all those years ?
Well, in my case ...escapade is MBA. In someone else's life it might be job change and for others it might be simply resigning to their fate. But this flat hierarchy structure stinks of communism after spending few years in it.
I am not sure whether anyone else also feels/felted this way but that's what I am going through.
